Well it is said that change is the only constant in life and the needs of your family change from time to time. You may need to get some remodeling done to your house to suit the changing needs of your family. You could call in remodeling construction companies or build your own home. Please plan before hand the look you want for your house.

Check on luxury as well as contemporary home plans. If you are in the city area, a contemporary plan will go more with your life style. You live a modern life style, are always on the move and you need a plan that suits your personality. If you live in the suburbs have a generous income, a large or a small family, you could opt for a luxury home plan.

If one is planning on a luxury home and has the layout of a luxury plan, remember while all homes are meant to be comfortable, a luxury home goes above and beyond this. If you live in a crowded city a luxury home plan could mean a home plan that is classy though a bit confined and of course it will be in an exclusive neighborhood. If the house is located in the suburbs, or in open areas than it could use a sizable amount of area in terms of square footage and it could have sprawling lawns and lush green vegetation surrounding the house.

Perfectly functional kitchens or large gourmet kitchens either could be included in your luxury home plan or even in your contemporary home plan you could have a perfectly functional kitchen that doubles up as recreational space. Luxurious bathrooms and bedrooms are all included in a luxury home plan. So if you want to build your own home or want to hire remodeling construction companies choose the appropriate luxury home plan.

Homes that encourage a healthy lifestyle are on the rise, luxury home owners often try to incorporate the comforts of a resort or a spa in their homes. Master bathrooms can often become a place of tranquil retreat with a Jacuzzi fitted in. Luxury homes in climates that are mild often have outdoor kitchens, and an entertainment and fitness area. A well designed outdoor space often enhances the quality of living of the inmates of the house.

Modern families are seeking for greater flexibility, especially those who live in cities; a contemporary home plan that meets the needs of the space challenged city homes is an essential requirement of such families. Such homes need a plan that can make maximum use of space like a den that can double up as a guest room.

Another feature of modern homes is incorporating the green elements. Eco-friendly building materials are being increasingly used and appreciated. Even high end energy appliances are a regular part of a luxury home plan. Finally remember whatever the look you plan for your home and whether it is a luxury or a contemporary home plan, make sure you hire a remodeling construction company that has a proven track record. Check their credentials and read their references.

One thing I believe is to let the house talk to you and it will tell you what it needs. This doesn’t mean that if you have a Spanish house and you want Modern that you can’t incorporate some of the modern into the look, but remember a Spanish is a Spanish and a Modern is a Modern, simple rule. So if you want a great look keep it simple and stay with one or two styles and don’t become crazy just mixing everything or fighting what is there. I have found a little sometimes goes a long way when finishing a house or room.

If your working a full week nine to five your not going to fill like coming home to a house that is all tore up. So my rule of thumb here is stay organized, be able to clean up and put everything away after your day of working on the project. Trust me you will be much more comfortable and be able to find the things you need. Even when I have a large project that I’m working on organization is the first thing, there is nothing worst than seeing your trades fall all over everybody else’s tools and trash. It just makes you crazy and adds so much more stress, yes I said stress.

And for the others that don’t have the time and want to hire a contractor or sub-contractor to handle everything be carefully and do your research before hand. Nothing worse than someone promising you everything and giving you nothing but a headache is not a good way to go. A good way to avoid this problem is know there work, go see it if you can and inspect everything with a sharp eye. Look at the finished details and how cleanly there are installed along with quality of materials. My saying here is if the finished caulk job is sloppy on the out side the workmanship is sloppy on the inside. A contractor usually takes the same work ethics from begin to end of a project. I have found that a trade person that is good for someone else is not always good, so talk to the person you want to hire in length about the project, use you feeling here if something doesn’t feel right don’t do it. Don’t second guess yourself, that doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes but there won’t be so many.

When I first moved into my house, I excitedly called over the guys to come and have a practice session in the basement. I had previously lived in a condo, so practicing there would be impossible, or very unenjoyable. The basement of the house had about 4 feet of ground surrounding it, and the upper part was a regular wall with windows in it. I figured it wouldn’t be much of a problem, and since there was so much dirt around the bottom part of the house it would help absorb some of that vibration. I was dead wrong!

As soon as we started, my neighbor notified me that he could hear the loud sounds at his house, about 300 feet away. Disappointed, we stopped. The sound was going right out the thin glass windows and, there was nothing I could do until I made some big changes. The noise from the back side of the house wasn’t as bad, but there was still a window that let vibrations pass through easily. I had always dreamed about building a sound proofed room in my house, so I set off on a mission to do so!

I thought about building a room within a room, but that might be overkill for what I was looking for. I wasn’t worried about sound passing into the rest of the house, just outside. I decided that I would build a wall closing off the back part of the basement, and treat that as much as I could to stop the sound. I would also build an angled wall in front of the windowed wall to help fight standing waves, and stop vibration from passing through directly to the wall.

Design of larger wall

To help keep transfer of vibration from passing through the large wall to the windows, I utilized a staggered stud approach. The base and top board are 2×6 boards, with regular 2×4 studs placed 16 inches apart on each side. The layering is staggered, so the studs end up being about 8 inches from each other, but the important part is that each wall does not touch the other wall. The only way vibration can pass through is to go through the 2×6 at the top an bottom, so just by having that transfer is cut down dramatically. Next step would be sheetrock – lots and lots of sheetrock! The only way to stop sound is to absorb and isolate it. The staggered wall helps to keep it isolated, and multiple layers of different sized drywall help to absorb it. Each side of the wall has 3 layers of sheetrock, at different depths. Standard half inch, as well as 5/8th inch board (which was very heavy!). Sheetrock layers should alternate, so first batch vertical, next batch horizontal, etc… You can put as many as you like, and the more the better.

I used clear silicon on the studs before applying the first layer of sheetrock, and sealed it on the top and bottom. Buy a bunch of these containers, you’re gonna need a good amount – they will help keep the pieces from vibrating against each other, and do their part in reducing transmission. You can also pick up a product called Green Glue which is designed for this exact purpose.

There are many ways to accomplish the task of sound isolation and absorption, and another good method is mounting the sheetrock on special hangers that keep it from touching the studs. Ceilings hung by wires, and floors resting on special pads can also be utilized to even further the affect.

In the end, I am now able to play with the full band and not disturb my neighbors – a job well done!
